Before Fourth Culture

Brighton, July 2020. Shortly after lockdown. Three Russian friends came to visit our apartment. My other Nigerian friend was there. I can’t remember vividly how we came to wearing our traditional clothes, but we did, and the afternoon became hours of just learning about one another.

The questions, the small corrections, the laughter when something got lost in translation. Curiosity moved between us slowly, in the time you spend sitting across from someone for the first time.

These frames are what stayed from that day.
